Our
Story

Hello!
We’re Lizana de Jongh and Gené Strauss — two passionate West Coast, ZA permaculturists on a mission to live more sustainably, design more intentionally, and connect more deeply with the land around us.
Together, we’re reimagining our gardens and lifestyles from the ground up — literally — in two very different yet equally inspiring river-based ecologies on the West Coast of South Africa.
From dense clay to sandy fynbos, salt-swept shorelines to inland microclimates, our Zone 2 environment challenges us to listen, adapt, and observe constantly.
🌿 That’s what Soil-to-Soul is all about:
An open, welcoming platform to explore whole systems design, build community resilience, and share permaculture knowledge—both locally and internationally. Whether you're just getting started or already knee-deep in compost, this space is for you.
We believe in:
✨ Designing with nature
🌀 Practicing the ethics of Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share
🤝 Learning through doing—and sharing what we know
🌻 Join our movement through:
-
The Soil-to-Soul Garden Club — free monthly meetups held every first Thursday, hosted at various inspiring sites. Bring your notebook and enthusiasm!
